Back to School Tips
July 19, 2021
With the summer coming to a close, it’s a great idea to beginning preparing the younger members of your household for the upcoming school year. Here are some practical tips that can help get the school year off to a good start:
Set the ScheduleAs we near the start of early, busy mornings, implementing schedules for sleep, activities, meals, etc., at least two weeks in advance of the first day of school will be beneficial to have a smooth transition from the summer season to the school year. Utilize a timer to help your kids complete tasks while being time-sensitive.
Prepare with AdventuresWe all know that “summer brain” is a real thing and can make the first days back to school exhausting for your students as they try to remember or relearn concepts from the previous schools years. To help combat this, plan some trips during the last few weeks of summer to educational attractions like museums and help their brains shift from summer to scholar's brain. As places begin to open back up due to the COVID-19 pandemic, please refer to an attraction's website to learn more about their reopening procedures. Don’t have time to take a trip? Encourage your children to take a “trip” by reading one book before the beginning of the school year.
Get FamiliarWhether it will be new or old territory, take some time to discuss the procedure and concerns regarding the start of school and the expectations for the year, like making the Varsity team this year. Also, taking a drive to your child’s school’s facilities to show or reacquaint them with their school can be very beneficial, especially if it will be their first year at that school.
Not only will these tips help set up your students for success, but they can help fuel excitement for what the school year has in store! To learn more about the school districts connected to our communities, visit our Communities Page today.
